GapYearWiki is a site designed to help you design and plan time off, whether a summer, a term or an entire year. Because it is a wiki, anyone may contribute - whether a teacher, a student, an adviser, someone who has taken time out, someone contemplating a gap year, a consultant, a manager of time off activities - anyone. What that means, is that you can learn not only what's out there, but what other people think of it and how to go about doing it.

The site is designed to be interactive, but it isn't a blog. You can learn from others' experiences to shape the perfect life experience for you; and then, while you are taking time out or after you return, you can share what you have learned and seen with others.

GapYearWiki's Categories will drive you to particular trips or activities that can frame your own special time away. Vendors who specialize in certain types of experience can discuss their specific programs, and those who have used those vendors or others like them can add their two cents.
Destinations will help you explore activities and programs in certain geographic locales. This is the place to go, if you are not sure what you want to do or how to go about doing it, but you have already made up your mind about Where to do it.
The Coffee House is the place to meet and greet. It provides food for thought as you plan your gap year, but it is also the perfect place to post a question, find someone to meet in a foreign city, or get the latest word on the best eats, bars, shows, exhibits, monuments, courses, tours transportation, concerts, parks, beaches, whatever wherever you may be or be going. And, being a wiki, the coffee is free.
Programs is the spot where we highlight specific programs run by particular vendors or organizations dedicated to developing and managing gap year activities. Choose one that interests you and click on through to the Vendor in charge, and explore it inside and out.
Gappenings tells you what's happening out there in GapYear land. Post your own updates and check out links to news, articles, and upcoming events.

GapYearWiki is your site, so take control of your time off and create the best experience possible! The ideas you find here were developed by others just like you, who loved their own time out so much, that they wanted to make their life experience available to everyone with similar goals.
