Who Can Help???

You are not alone! There are tens of thousands of others planning gap years, and there are many organizations and advisors to help you make yours the best possible for you. GapYearWiki is designed to focus the experiences of all those who have taken a gap year as well as those who help plan time off, so that you can pick and choose the international experience or focus year project that is right for you. Student travel during a year off or just a summer abroad should be one of the best experiences of your life, and GapYearWiki enables you to share in the insight of all those that have gone before you or may be planning to travel right alongside you. Take a look at what's out there.

TIME OUT ASSOCIATES

For anyone considering time off from school, either before or during college, I cannot recommend strongly enough Bob Gilpin and Time Out Associates (http://whereyouheaded.com). Bob is the former Chair of the History Department and head of college advising at Milton Academy outside Boston, and we sought his advice when our son decided to take a year off. It was one of the best decisions ever! Bob found three programs for us: Harvard summer school; the Oxford tutorial college in Oxford, England for the fall; and the John Hall Pre-University Course in Venice, Italy for the winter and spring. All were great experiences, but the last of these three was clearly a life-changing experience for our son. We should all be so lucky as to have an opportunity like the John Hall course at least once in life.

Anyway, if you are considering any time off at all, even just a summer out of the ordinary, you must contact Bob via the link cited above. Better yet, why not give him a call? 617-698-8977

The Course, conducted through a series of lectures and visits by a team of world-class experts, includes not only painting, sculpture and architecture but also music, world cinema and literature as well as practical classes in studio life drawing and portraiture, photography and Italian Language.

The Course begins with a week in London and ends with a week in Florence and six days in Rome. The calm enjoyment of living in Venice, being able to let the many new things sink in, is a vital ingredient of the Course. It is essentially a laying of cultural foundations, an inspirational experience, not a tour.
